Role Overview – Freelance Political Copywriter

In preparation for the 2020 campaign season, the creative department is seeking a talented and driven individual with a strong writing background for a role on our team as a freelance political copywriter. We value people who take pride in the quality of their work and attention to detail.

As a freelance political copywriter, you will be the starting point for developing insightful, impactful, engaging, effective, and 100% accurate communications that move the needle for campaigns across the nation. Candidates must possess the ability to understand the political process and to develop copy that is precise, nuanced, and design-ready. The right candidates will have an extremely creative mind and be able to develop communications solutions that are creative and meet the strategic objectives. Ability to work at a fast pace, strong team communications, and attention to detail are a must!

Our firm’s Research Department conducts polls, focus groups and advocacy projects all across the United States. We help candidates and political committees in some of the most competitive elections in the country, giving them accurate and precise poll results that help them make better decisions that are the difference between winning and losing. And our department works with Data Targeting’s general consultants, our creative writers and designers, and our digital advertising experts to determine what voters need to know about our candidates and causes, and how to communicate with them in a more impactful way.

General Overview – Polling and Research Department

In election season, our clients need accurate polling results and they need them fast. And we need to provide them with not just numbers and trendlines, but to give them our own analysis and insights about what the data is telling us, and how those results impact decisions that can affect how millions of dollars are spent.

In your role, you will help produce reports of survey results, including weighted toplines and crosstabulations, and assist in producing visualizations of important insights we’ve gathered from those results. You will also learn how polls, focus groups and advocacy projects are developed and implemented, and play a role in turning those projects from request to reality.

Candidates must possess a willingness to learn, the ability to manage a team as well as be a team player, have the ability to work autonomously without micro-managed, and have the drive to not just accomplish work but ensure it is completed to the best of their ability.

Ability to work at a fast pace, strong client communications, and attention to detail are a must!

Responsibilities

  • Process raw survey data into client-ready polling results for our clients and staff
  • Produce visualizations for meaningful insights and analysis from survey projects
  • Assist research department staff in conducting polling and focus group projects across the United States
  • Program and execute peer-to-peer texting programs for clients and candidates
  • Work with other divisions of the company to help those divisions use our research projects to make their work product more memorable and more effective

General Overview – Seasonal Graphic Designer

The creative department is a vital part of our organization – everything we write or design has a direct impact on the success of campaigns. In preparation for the 2020 campaign season, the creative department is seeking a talented and driven graphic designer to join our team. This is a full-time seasonal position that runs from hiring date through the November 2020 elections.

Above all else, our creative department values excellence. We are seeking a phenomenal graphic designer with background experience in political campaigns or direct mail marketing. The primary responsibility will be producing print and digital materials. You’ll work closely with copywriters, other designers, and our clients to deliver a final product that’s not only well-designed, but on message and effective. The candidate should be well-experienced in using InDesign, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. They should be able to handle a fast-paced environment, working quickly through revisions and able to handle feedback from clients and co-workers. Finally, the candidate must be a strong conceptual thinker who can come up with creative ways to deliver a message.

Ability to work at a fast pace, work well on a team, exhibit strong client communications, and show consistent attention to detail are a must, and qualified candidates must be able to work through November 2020.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in researching, planning, and executing the migration of on-prem data infrastructure to AWS, including evaluating tradeoffs between cost, performance, and maintainability
  • Maintain and develop custom ETL pipelines
  • Design and develop data architecture for new and existing applications and data sources
  • Assist in the research, scheduling, acquisition, and documenting of new datasets
  • Collaborate with a small team to execute and iterate on application development, including interfacing with legacy databases, parsing raw structured and unstructured data, documenting the data warehouse, debugging, and deploying to production environments
  • Perform manual and automated quality control of production data

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Python with experience parsing, manipulating, and converting data to and from a wide range of formats (CSV, JSON, XML, HTML, SQL tables, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of modern RDBMS concepts and SQL syntax, including experience with at least one modern RDBMS (we use PostgreSQL)
